Rick Folger Director of Junior Programming Team Ektelon
|
| Rick began his exercise career by running which culminated in over ten half marathons and two sub four hour marathons. He then moved on to a boxing regime which lasted about three years and one headache too many. Rick has been playing racquetball since 1975, and is a veteran of many club and amateur tournaments, and two strong national tournament showings. He began teaching in 2001, and it has become the joy of his life to watch young people learning the game he loves so much. “It always delights me to watch children who for the first five weeks cannot hit the ball at all, come in on the sixth week (tournament week) and all of sudden they can do it,” quotes Rick. He holds four ten week courses a year, for children seven to twelve, with a student base of more than 75 kids. He believes that playing is the most important part of teaching the kids. So, he gives the kids fifteen to twenty minutes of instruction and allows the kids to finish by playing. He has a round robin for the kids each Saturday between the hours of twelve to three at the Club at Woodbridge. This class is open to all students or any child may participate at a ten dollar fee. He is currently working on a racquetball after school program. He believes the most important thing a child learns while learning to play racquetball is self-confidence. He considers himself truly lucky to be a position to watch children grow. |
